Desert High book

December 12, 2012 by Doug Van Pelt (Register to contact)

Forgive the horn-tooting, but I can't afford a publicist to say this for me! And surely a book called "Desert High" (about Desert High) is worthy of pimping here...

I've got some new books that I've written that would be fabulous for Christmas gifts for those you love (and/or perhaps yourself):

Desert High is a novel about high school football, flight testing and time travel. The main character was sorely ripped off by some poor officiating in a high school football playoff game in November, 1980. While the refs admitted their mistakes to the coach on the following Tuesday, Doug and his classmates are still not over the injustice of it all - and it's been 32 years. Doug gets a phone call from his brother-in-law, working at Edwards AFB one day. "Doug, we've actually built a time machine and we're looking for a guinea pig to go back in time and fix a 'small, insignificant event,' like that football game against Mammoth you're always talking about..." Thus begins the journey back to Southern California in 1980 to right the sports wrong that took place. It's like a combination of Friday Night Lights meets Back to the Future (with The Right Stuff as its background).

Signed copies are available. To find, google "Desert High book" and you'll find it. There are also copies available in Lancaster, CA at Forge Store on Lancaster Blvd and Horizon Comics on 10th W.

Rock Stars on God, Volume 2 is a collection of interviews taken from the pages of HM Magazine, where the author talks to 25 different famous rock stars about their musical craft and the topic of spirituality and God, where the question "What do you think about Jesus Christ?" deepens the conversation into an always enjoyable read. If you or your loved ones are familiar with any of these artists, they'll enjoy this book: Thrice, Collective Soul, Meshuggah, Taking Back Sunday, Extreme, Rob Halford (Fight, Judas Priest), Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave), Dimmu Borgir, Morbid Angel, King Diamond, Megadeth, H.I.M., Cradle of Filth, Killswitch Engage, Slipknot, Lamb of God, Type O Negative, Every Time I Die, The Alarm, Midnight Oil, Scott Stapp (Creed), My Chemical Romance, Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Slayer and Ronnie James Dio.

Signed copies available.

Flying Tales is a book by career test/fighter pilot Larry Van Pelt. As Larry Van Pelt looked back over fifty years of flying experiences as a fighter pilot, combat pilot, test pilot, and general aviation pilot many memorable moments came to mind. His grandchildren convinced him to begin putting those ‘moments’ onto paper. The result was a weekly “flying tale.” This book is a compilation of 100 of those “tales.” Larry’s 26+ year career in the U.S. Air Force included combat in F-105 and OV-10 aircraft and test pilot assignments flying various fighter aircraft at Eglin and Edwards Air Force Base (where he served as commandant of the USAF Test Pilot School). After his retirement from the Air Force Larry and his wife Carolyn settled in Niceville, Florida where he continued his love for flying by building his own airplane – appropriately named “Sweet Carolyne” – used to introduce scores of family and friends to the joy of flying.
